Use RPi with digital picture frame

Hi, has anyone thought of a way to use an RPi with a digital picture frame?  I was thinking of retaining and extending the capability of the picture frame rather than just trying to hack the display.  One way that I've considered is using a RPi Zero W and using it as virtual storage that is updated over wifi (using the usb OTG feature to connect to the usb port on the picture frame) and using the GPIO to control the picture frame buttons so that I could control it remotely over bluetooth or wifi.  Does that sound feasible?

    I tried to pick up some digital picture frames at the thrift store to try to mate them with a RaspPi, but they were all some form of broken. I feel like as long as you are able to hack the screen to wok with the Pi, then the screen should be capable of anything a normal screen could do for a Pi. So the question is really, can you make a Pi that runs a photo slideshow program that can be remote updated over wifi, and I'm pretty sure that can be done. It would just depend on which way you choose to do it. As far as controlling the picture frame buttons, From what I've seen those buttons tend to be integrated into the hardware for the frame. It would likely be easier to connect buttons(either the ones on the frame or add new ones) directly to the GPIO on the Pi and set them in your program to have them do whatever you want.
