VCR to Video Hard Drive Recorder project

mantazz
mantazz over 6 years ago

As part of my suggestion, since video cassette recorders are past and obsolete, may I suggest they can convert to a hard drive video recording and playing project replacing the video cassette loader with a 4TB internal hard drive. Do not forget with other improvements using the reverse button to choose past recorded video and fast forward button to choose next recorded video. Even adding a HDMI input and output for recording hard drive videos for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3 involving recording game video even for Twin Galaxies. I tried my best specifying this, hope this might happen.

This sounds a bit like what an off-the shelf a PVR / DVR device would do. Some DVRs will record to a USB memory/hard drive like this one from Datavideo: https://www.datavideo.com/product/HDR-1 or alternatively…

Hi Dave, I was not aware of this project, and the general answer is yes, something similar, but really different in the realization. It is not the first time I will make this kind of devices and I had…

This is a second option, maybe better for some kind of users with a restricted budget. It a telecine device based on Raspberry PI and a vintage 8 / super-8 film projector that needs changes and updates…

I think I have a couple of old VCRs somewhere, but I haven't been that far into the dead storage catacombs in a couple of decades.

Great source for optocouplers and motors.

Zillions and zillions of mechanical parts, especially in early VCRs - that is why I still have them.

I continue to pick up old VCR's at garage sales for about 1 USD. They are full of useful components and I recently helped someone who had a lot of family videos who wanted to burn them to DVD.

So they are still very useful, for capturing video and audio inexpensively and I have a device to digitize the video for either digital play or to make a DVD.
