Tearing down 3 Scalextric Car Kits from Analog to Digital -- The Electronics Inside 76

I have enjoyed slot car racing since I was about 4 years old, as I'm sure many people around the world have. However, digital sets introduced in the early 2000 allow for slot changes mid race, and more than 1 car per slot - but importantly HOW??? There's only one way to find out!

Actually, thinking about it, that may have been a 1960s Cox slot car controller.

I think Scalextric had a similar thumb design at one point though.

The slot cars I used to play with were all DC motors.

It looks very much like they have used the same tech from the world of trains here. So DCC Digital Command Control.

The protocol has a fixed frequency with variable pulse widths representing 1 and 0.
