Continuing with our history of data storage, we are going back - way back - to see how punched paper tape storage worked.
Nice tear down.
It takes me back to my early computer years.
You have a reasonably modern paper tape reader compared to the ones I used.
If you want a real challenge, get an old ASR33 terminal with a mechanical paper tape reader.
You will be amazed at how they used a mechanical interface to convert the paper tape holes into electrical signals.

I'm still a little uncertain about the date, but late 70s sounds about right?
ASR33 goes back to the 1950's at least.
They were using an early version in the 1940's and I believe there was some usage even before then.
They go way back, but they were perfect for sending ASCII messages to a large number of teleprinters.
