Have you ever thought about the impact electronics can have on someone's life? It's easy to be dismissive and think "I'd be fine without my smartphone" or "I could live without TV". But what about electronics that supplement a sense?

Another great teardown. It is amazing how the technology continues to progress on these devices. DAB

It's probably beyond my skill set for me to develop single handed, but with a platform like e14 Community behind us, we should have a good starting point! I'm in my 30s, but I already think about all the…

Thanks DAB, always appreciated. The triple stacked ICs on the flex PCB blew my mind - I assume the poinout on the ICs were deliberatly designed to correspond with straight traces? If not, then I'm inclined…

I didn't see any sign of a telecoil in either device. It's been an increasing problem for venues in recent years as the AFILS infrastructure can often be expensive to install and maintain, yet perhaps now only the minority of hearing aid users can really still benefit from it.

Perhaps ironically, the early behind the ear hearing aids used to give the user full control over mic or telecoil via the simple M/T switch. Modern hearing aids however appear to require the option to be enabled/disabled often by the audiologist during configuration. Often it appears it is left disabled though to avoid the problems of nuisance spill from poorly designed and installed perimeter loop systems.

Alternative solutions tend to create more problems that they solve be it due to the additional IR/RF receivers required or the audio streaming latency through Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth comms on a smartphone to the hearing aid.

Not sure that I would enjoy my ability to hear to be mandated by the built-in obsolescence of smartphones/apps though.
