I am glad that I was selected among the beneficiaries who received the Under Pressure kit", and I will continue to try to put into action every sensor received.
A few days ago I received the package with these Bio Sensors, or better said for the purpose of health monitoring. It is about the Summer of Sensors Design Challenge, a rather important challenge, as proof, among the sponsors are Renesas, ST Microelectronics, Vishay, and MikroElectronika (MikroE). Each sponsor provided the participants with a specific kit.
I have proposed a theme through which I want to create a project with the MikroElectronika kit, a pulse oximeter, using an Arduino Uno platform, and the monitored parameters will be able to be displayed locally, on an LCD display for example, but they can also be viewed from remotely, from another device, such as a laptop or mobile phone (internet connection required), through the Node Red application.
The package I received contains:
- MAX30102 based module, compact add-on board suitable for measuring blood oxygen saturation;
- MAX30100 based module, integrated pulse oximetry and heart rate sensor;
- LSM6DSL, high performance 3-axis digital accelerometer and 3-axis digital
gyroscope;
- MikroE 1581 shield for Arduino Uno;
- of course, Arduino Uno board.
The shield for Arduino Uno is easily mounted over the Arduino board, but first you have to solder those small pins bar. This is easily done.
In turn, on this shield there are two slots (female pins bar) in which two sensors are inserted, from those mentioned above. So, to put this kit into operation we don't need too many things, as everything is presented as a sandwich, a 9V voltage source and a data cable, the only things that are missing. As you can see in the pictures, the sensors are placed on compact modules (like a sandwich), so they are not very mobile, but that is not a problem.
Thus we can move on to the programming part. Since I did not find dedicated software support for this kit, I have to do other research as well, and I installed the "SparkFun_MAX3010x_Pulse_and_Proximity_Sensor_Library" library in the Arduino IDE and follow the example sketches. At the moment I'm having problems, this software library doesn't seem to understand the hardware. I did a few more searches and also found a library for the accelerometer as well, but changes must be made in the library.
This is just an unboxing blog, I will elaborate more in the future. Next, I will try to create a few blogs with a test application for each individual module, practical tests. Now I focus on MAX30100.
So far I can only say that I am excited about this kit, I have some work to do on this one, and I have to put it to work.
