MG996R Servo Repair?

As part of the Animatronics theme under Project14, I'm currently building my entry Animatronic Fun: Snippets and had planned to use four MG996R servos. Having concentrated on the actual design of the animatronic I had omitted to look closely at the servos and now I find only two of them work. I took one of the faulty servos apart and initially, on power up, the motor then began to spin, after assembly it worked briefly and now not at all again. I'd like to salvage these if possible as I've spent quite a lot of effort making the housings.

Does anyone have any tips of thoughts on fault finding?

Alternatively advice on servo selection in a low budget would also be appreciated (UK based) as the usual online choices do not have the best reviews.

I wish I had a good answer to this.  It appears that some of the TowerPro servos being sold on the usual Chinese mail order sites are counterfeit (according to the TowerPro web site).  I have some micro servos marked TowerPro that have a high failure rate and have had poor no success repairing them.  I ordered some others and they seem more reliable.  They are slightly different from the first ones in that the wiring comes out of the case differently and the mounting tabs are different.   In the larger sizes I have been using Hitec servos from a reliable distributor and have not had a problem but they are more expensive than equivalent sizes off the Chinese sites.

Thanks Frank - I think I also need to find a reputable R/C specialist and pay a bit more.
