Every year on the community we do a special Arduino Day Challenge. Last year, we did a Drone Workshop followed by a Drone project competition. The year before that we did a NanoRama competition which focused on Arduino's Nano product line. The year before that we did an Open Arduino challenge. This year, instead of an Arduino Day, Arduino will be celebrating an Arduino Week from March 21st - March 26th and we need your help finalizing our plans on the community for how we'll celebrate Arduino this year. We try to do something different every year so this year we'll be holding a Nicla Sense ME workshop with balearicdynamics followed by an Arduino Week Competition that features the Nicla Sense ME board.

In preparation for the Arduino Week Workshop we've sent balearicdynamics a Nicla Sense ME board and he's come up with some great ideas around the board and since it features a multifunction sensor, we were thinking of this year could focus on "Environment monitoring" or "One Room Climate Change"? For example, a climate change related challenge could focus on the shower, temperature water control, garage state monitoring, etc. We've also noticed that TinyML and using something like EdgeImpulse to easily add ML to your project has been a very popular subject on the community and want to give members a chance to explore this topic with a proper project competition. Although Nicla Sense ME is the board we'll be focused on there are already a couple of other really good solutions from Arduino for enabling ML in addition to the Niclas Sense ME board (Nano Sense 33 and the Portenta boards).
If you're not familiar with the Nicla Sense 33 board then here are some details from the Arduino site:
The Nicla Sense ME is a tiny, low-power tool that sets a new standard for intelligent sensing solutions. With the simplicity of integration and scalability of the Arduino ecosystem, the board combines four state-of-the-art sensors from Bosch Sensortec:
- BHI260AP motion sensor system with integrated AI
- BMM150 magnetometer
- BMP390 pressure sensor
- BME688 4-in-1 gas sensor with AI and integrated high-linearity, as well as high-accuracy pressure, humidity and temperature sensors.
Designed to easily analyze motion and the surrounding environment – hence the “M” and “E” in the name – it measures rotation, acceleration, pressure, humidity, temperature, air quality and CO2 levels by introducing completely new Bosch Sensortec sensors on the market. Its tiny size and robust design make it suitable for projects that need to combine sensor fusion and AI capabilities on the edge, thanks to a strong computational power and low-consumption combination that can even lead to standalone applications when battery operated. Part of Arduino Pro’s new Nicla family of modular, intelligent products that are easy to use, cost effective, versatile and accessible, the Sense ME has a new, tiny form factor that is also compatible with the Arduino MKR and Portenta ranges.
