A long time ago (almost exactly 2 years), I started a project to try out a slip ring. I can't exactly remember what it was supposed to do, but I think that it was going to continuously pan a camera attached to an RPi Zero W. The slip ring was to interface power and GPIO. I got as far as printing a couple of geared plates to hold the slip ring and a continuous rotation servo. It may have been the pandemic or something else, but I never got any further...
For "Build a Present" I thought I'd use the slip ring to build a rotating Snowman ornament with lights (LEDs) and sound. tariq.ahmad sent me a swag box which included an Arduino Nano to use for the project, but I think that I'll use an Arduino Nano 33 IoT instead so that I can control it remotely using WiFi.
Here is a quick visualization:
It's been a tough year end and I haven't made as much progress as I had planned.
Here are pieces of the base that I printed for the electronics:
Looking at my schedule between now and January 14, I realized that I may not finish in time. But, I'll post my progress and the final result whenever that might happen...
I may also need to print the snowman in black and paint it white - I seem to have misplaced my extra white filament .
I've enjoyed seeing all the great presents that others are doing. Happy New Year everyone!! And have fun building...
