Ok, most of the so-called smart thermostats aren't very smart. The following reasons are from www.smarthab.us
- It should control the temperature inside the house without regard to heating or cooling modes
- It should control the fan, ie air quality or how many times do we turn over the air in the house per hour.
- It should tell you when to change the air filters. Not by time but buy filter efficiency. (currently by time)
- If there is a dehumidifier or humidifier it should control them as well.
- I got tired of emptying the dehumidifier tank, so with an ultrasonic module and a pump, it now empties itself
- A normal display would be nice
- Web Services? - Why not
- The thermostat should know what room you are in, or not in the house at all.
- Standard Client/Server Protocol
- Standard TCP/IP Ethernet Connection
- Wireless connectivity by the use of Zig-Bee Mesh Network

POINTS TO PONDER: AI or not AI that is the question.
- "Smart" does not mean "AI"
- "Voice Command" does not mean "AI"
- Anybody can program a computer to beat you at chess, checkers, etc.
- I heard this today: "All websites are AI" (your joking of course!)
- Very little in your life today is "AI"
- MS hypes its AI crap let it play chess with Big Blue or Watson.
- Just because a programmer figured out an easy way to something, does not make it AI.
- Speech recognition software is hyped as AI but alas, nope.
So this project, we will start with points, 1 through 3 and 8 through 10. (may not get to 9)
- For the brains of this thing, I plan on using just my TI Launchpads that have been laying around for a while.
- For the system controller, I will use an EK-TM4C129xl.
- For the controller for the dehumidifier, I plan on using a TI MSP430 Launchpad.
- For Zig-Bee communications link I will be using two A2530 Modules from TI.
- For the display and controls, I will use a Kentec Display EB-LM4F120-L35EB-LM4F120-L35 from a TI LM4F120 Launchpad kit
