Albero di(Gi) Natale

Albero di(Gi) Natale is my first project made using Arduino. "Albero di Natale" means Christmas Tree in Italian. So the name has been created by the combination between "Albero digitale" and "Albero di Natale" and can be write down in both forms: Albero digi(Na)tale or Albero di(Gi) Natale.

image

It is a small object (27cm x 23cm x 32cm): a sculpture, made of recycled materials (CD, copper and plastic pipes, electric cables, wood), equipped with LEDs controlled by Arduino. It is aimed at evoking the shape of a strange "exotic" tree decorated by Christmas decorations. It is a work in progress started in the fall of 2012 that currently has reached its final stage for the visual aspect. Arduino controls the lighting and the power off of the LEDs through a program that, in order to generate perceptually a periodic sequences, uses prime numbers for the computation of pulse lights intervals.

I like it. It looks like a plant they had on one of the original Star Trek episodes back in the 1960's. Very cool. DAB

    Hi Constantino,

Do you have the source code for this project online? I couldn't find it on the link. It would be perfect for others who wish to attempt this amazing project.

I did a light installation some years ago for an Exhibition at Greenwich, an array of RGB LEDs activated by any passing shadows and other LEDs nearby lighting up. Adding some sound would have been an interesting dimension. Quite a few of the exhibits were using Xbox Kinects to achieve some interesting effects.

I still like to tell people that I have been curated.

No. Unfortunately the music is not generated by the three. It would be very nice.

The music is generated by an algorithmic composition system that I created some years ago for an interactive sound installation.
