Where Did My Volts Go?

What's not to love about seeing science in action?  We can't always see the actual event but we can see the results.  In troubleshooting, I call them symptoms, because the event we can measure or observe isn't the root cause.

I also decided to try making a video.  Wow.  It's even harder than I imagined.  Note to self... you're not that good.

I decided to "prove" Ohms Law through demonstrating voltage drop.  It's in the video.  Of course, things didn't go as planned - but I had a lot of fun (and frustration) so I decided to share it anyway.

You can prove inductance by keeping the extension cords wound up on a roll .

Oh, I have used similar ones in the past by myself. I just value my life too much to ever connect to to mains (granted, it 240V over here).

    Hi Mike,

I don't know what you were talking about when you said you weren't that good at video. I think you made a very impressive Science Guy.  Excellent experiment and demonstration.

jw0752  You are very kind.  Making the video reminded me of how much I miss teaching electrical things in person - and of how much stuff I usually explain by drawing it on a white board on the fly.

I tried to take real-time take 2 measurements and write them down, change a power supply's settings and draw a graph on paper in my last video - while speaking a foreign language. With an iPad in my left hand filming the whole thing. There must be better ways...
