June 2025, I participated in a Hackster Competition to interface Sensirion6X to Smart Citizen project of Fab Lab Barcelona. I was one of the 3 challengers selected. For this, they sent me th Sensirion Sensor along with couple of other stuffs. Here is the List
- Sensirion SEN66
- Sensirion SEN5X
- Adafruit PMSA003I Air Quality Breakout
- XIAO ESP32S3 & Wio-SX1262 Kit for Meshtastic & LoRa
- Seeed Studio Expansion Board Base for XIAO with Grove OLED - IIC, Uart, Analog/Digital
- Grove - Temperature, Humidity, Pressure and Gas Sensor for Arduino - BME680
As always, I try to make a Unique application of the project and As past resident of Delhi, one of top polluted countries in the world, I wanted to make a Heat map, so show which areas are cleaner to run. Delhi implemented a water sprinkler system to bring down the local pollution. Sadly the schedule is quite random plus i wanted to work with actual data. The Idea was, runners could wear one of this, the senor will read the AQI and send it to the cloud via MQTT and others can see the crowd sourced data and accordingly choose the path with better AQI. Sort of like how google maps source the data.
I was able to complete the SEn6X Driver but never manged to get the heat map up and running because of some work travel. Now, for this Spring Clean Project, I am reviving it.
Since the hardware is already build, All work was entirely on software. I had to rewrite the firmware and Make a new module in my private server running on Django tech stack to show the heatmap. I will be sharing the Firmware for the Device only though. The Django server has nothing innovative just a simple CRUD and an API call to OpenMaps.
