Although this isn't a typical happy new year message, I do hope your dreams and bucket lists continue to seem possible.

I thought I would kick it off with a lesson in what not to do based on a comment by Fred27 about using a hot air workstation in a kitchen.

This is another inappropriate use of a 900 degree hot air pencil:

It did highlight the fact that I could use another smoke detector in the lab. image

    Hi Doug,

I was going to be a smartass and try to out do you by using the $30,000 dental laser I have sitting in the corner to burn Happy New Year into a piece of wood. While I was practicing to write it I made so much smoke the wife came down to the shop and my plans were thwarted.

Many of my good ideas turn out to be not so good when reconsidered.

    John

I can imagine the situation ... the saner people I live with weren't thrilled with the smoke I generated either.

Of course I had neglected to turn on my fancy fume extractor, but I was prepared to put out a fire if it lit up..

I suspect my hot air machine could burn wood too, but I would have to lug it up to the fireplace.

    Happy New Decade!

I had a similar experience with a 40W CO2 laser when I decided it could share the same fume extraction vent as the cooker hood. It back-vented vapourized acrylic into the kitchen. I was not popular.
