It is definitely worth subscribing to the Google Groups "BeagleBoard" group, because the engineers responsible for the design are on that, so you'll see any issues being found/discussed make it to your e-mail inbox. It's a bit unfiltered since it will include uninteresting issues too, so you may need a separate folder for it. (and I just saw another overheating message come in on that folder as we speak..).

Though the solder bridge is intentional as it serves as a pulldown, I removed it just for testing and it is still running hot. Reports are coming in that the board does run hotter with the image that comes on the eMMC. I am gonna try and use an image on the SDCARD which may yield different results.

At this moment, my BB Ai no longer works. I removed the pull-up resistor which Jan Cumps mentioned as a solder bridge, but the board booted the same way to heat up the same way as before. Then I ran a sudo apt dis-upgrade and after rebooting, the board never booted up again.

I added the pull-up again but no go.

I also tried booting from an image but no go.

So

a. Don't remove the solder-bridge

b. Don't run updates.

I will try and use the serial interface to see if uboot is doing something or if the board itself is dead. I am hoping for the former but it may be the latter due to overheating.

Kind of an expensive board to be putting a soldering iron to it which I would suspect violates the warranty.

Does your board have a heat sink and or fan on the main processor?

The board has a full heat sink on the SoC. But is hard to tell if any thermal paste. Mine gets hot with very little usage. But the heating issue is not as bad as ipv1 .

Sorry to hear that : ( It's likely a boot issue hopefully.

Does it require any button held down to force the boot to occur from microSD, like with the BeagleBone Black?

As you allude, the serial console will be useful to help troubleshoot.

Also, speaking of overheating.. it could be worse.
