Time:

   Egg timers, photographic timers, clocks, calendars, delay lines. Anything that uses or alters timing

I will ad also a time machine. Sound good ?

...don't be ridiculous! Everyone knows a time machine requires more energy than you can generate with the 5v 2.5A Raspberry Pi wall wart. :-)

Perhaps a TV and film inspired project theme?

This is priceless!!!!  All sorts of drinking games come to mind with an LED alert when the trigger is identified. ... ah, the wasted college days playing "Smurf" (whenever Smurf is used as a non-noun part of speech). Or perhaps a Kevin Bacon search engine.

I think time wasting machine would be the easiest to make!! So technically it makes the future come quicker.....

IMHO as a matter of fact you are both right and wrong Most depends on the complexity of the time wasting machine. It is true that this kind of projects opens a wider scenario as there is not a precise topic but just the machine behavior.

balearicdynamics Enrico gets us into an interesting philosophical realm, and poses the question, "what constitutes waste". If it is not done properly, then the act of wasting time can be considered, by some, productive. So, it is not really a waste of time? Also, the activity of creating a true time waster has technical considerations of analysis and design, which exercises the limits of systems, and again fails as a true waste of time.  Last, if a secondary device is employed to act as a time "waster", then who's time is it wasting, the user, or the device?

Jack, maybe this universal question can be solved with a little postilla to the topic: learn by yourself making machines wasting their time.

I mean, the user learn as just for the reason that while learning, designing and making he remain - hopefully - alive he is not wasting his time. Then the result is a time-wasting machine that do nothing else than doing itself. But - based on this consideration we should introduce another important branch of philosophy that can be helpful to us solving this complex teorema: physics (that together math is another branch of the philosophy).

A machine that do nothing at the end of a cycle than consuming energy, no matter what form, is just an isoentropic engine if we exclude the power itself. And we can as we consider the power supply as an external non-influent element like the ground sound of the universe; the reason is that power supply will be present anyway in both a isoentropic machine or a common machine that do something to the external (i.e. is it not a closed system). Here I call to the bar Mr Carnot that can easily explain us what happens in a closed system.
