Keeping with July and (northern hemisphere) Summer time, I like Douglas' ideas. Demonstration of physical phenomenon for classroom is a great avenue, I was thinking lots of solar stuff. Charging systems…

I have two ideas:

1) Bluetooth - currently there are many MCUs and boards supporing Bluetooth including very cheap boards. It would be nice to projects featuring this low-distance communication use cases in some projects.

2) Thermal printers - thermal printers are used for years. Most of them support RS-232 communication so it would be nice to see some project featuring these printers driven by Arduino or some other board.

Another topic suggestion RFID or NFC. Now that phones have NFC the potential for projects that use this technology has been dramatically expanded.

In Spain during the time of the Franco dictatorship we were isolated from the world and we did not get to know the inventions of Rube Goldberg. We had something similar in a Spanish cartoon magazine "TBO".
