I guess the suggestion box moved here so I will reiterate one idea I mentioned earlier and add one: - a classroom demonstration of some physics phenomenon ( jc2048 had some good ideas ) - a solar powered…

Keeping with July and (northern hemisphere) Summer time, I like Douglas' ideas. Demonstration of physical phenomenon for classroom is a great avenue, I was thinking lots of solar stuff. Charging systems…

We combined beagles 's  two water project competitions, broadening it as was suggested as a possibility to include both water conservation and eco friendly water, calling it mixing water & electronics.

This will give us an idea of how much interest is in it.

Now that the Holiday Special is up, it made sense to start also thinking about next year.

I really like your suggestions and could very well be used in an upcoming poll as its own thing about water.

Such an important topic, it most certainly would make sense to revisit whether the first water competition is picked or not.

If anyone else has any ideas on competitions you want to do next year let us know in the comments!

"responsible waste disposal" - Waste Management, Waste Recycling.

One I had see was "Waste-to-Energy" (WtE)- Finding ways to convert waste into some form of energy.  Sort of like Doc from "Back to the Future" with the trash powered Delorean.

    water saving projects

    - "Good to the Last Drop"  --  Conserving water through responsible water usage.  A device that will detect and alert the user of over usage of water.  This could be flow control devices or smarter water meters that provide the home owner with info on their own water usage rather than just send the data to the Water Utility.

    - "Soak it Up" - A device that absorbs the extra water from either rain or sprinkler run off rather than it being sent down the drain. This could also be used in a shower to collect and recycle the extra water used during a shower session which, after some filtering, could be used for lawn or plant usage.

I'm thinking water conservation (water saving projects? )  and responsible waste disposal could be two competitions on their own.

Anyone have any ideas for a better name than "responsible waste disposal" or for that matter water saving projects?

We could use those names for the poll or if a better names comes up we can decide on a new name if its picked.

Welcome to the community beagles !

These are some really great ideas and I would be sure to check back next month when we launch are regular monthly theme poll because I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those ideas used!

The community is really inclusive and since its an engineering community, you'll meet people who share your interest in electronics.

You'll also meet people with the expertise and experience to assist you with any questions you have as you're working on your project, so this is a great learning environment!

Water conservation is extremely important so I'm looking forward to the learning you'll provide the community with your experience.

    Tariq

    Hi,

Some water ideas for the future

    Ideas to save water

With droughts hitting a number of countries this year lets have a project that helps us try and reduce our potable water use.

    Examples:

A timer that alarms for 2 minute showers. An egg timer could probably be used but lets face it, its not as fun!

Setting up the garden watering system using rain water

Could even go broader and just call it 'Electronics and water- What a mix!'

This could bring in other projects linked to water for example a remote controlled boat.

And what about the dark (waste) side of water:

    The two big issues for the UK linked to sewage;

    1. oils & fats being chucked down the sink

    2. 'flushable' wipes... THESE ARE NOT FLUSHABLE!

If you have guessed already, yes, I work for a water company :-)

PS- I'm new to element14... and electronics.. really liking the idea of these monthly projects. Looking forward to entering some ideas soon.

I think I need to build one of those as a tiny-house addition to our guest house!

tariq.ahmad For the holiday special theme and in keeping with the spirit of the season, how about building something electronic that you are going to give to someone else? I'm not sure how Star Wars is supposed to connect, maybe a SciFi accessory that you will give to someone or maybe putting together a neat little electronics kit?
