Project14 | Which Past Themes Would You Like to Work On as a Team?

We are discussing doing something different that involves more advanced projects and engineers working collaboratively as part of a team.  If we were to do project competitions around past themes which of the following contests would you like to revisit to work on a collaboratively with other members?  You can use this as a forum to pitch your ideas to other members to help you finish a project in 4 month period of time.  Or,  you could take an existing project from a past contest and work together as a team to build that project into a finished prototype.

I am interested in this type of project, but there are significant issues to address such as: How to form a team. How big should the team be? How to find synergy. How does a team decide what project to…

Doug, These are good questions. I know that you have some experience in working on some contests in a small group (a group of two), can you share any of your experiences as they relate to these points…

These projects would be ideal for maker/hacker spaces!

I'm wondering if it would be more attractive to propose completely new projects instead of projects of past project14s..

What topics would you consider suited to working with a team?   I've heard "Massively Distributed Rube Goldberg" as a possibility,  what other kinds of project competitions would be well suited.

One of my favorite examples of group collaboration got brought up during the DIY Test Instrument contest:

    Programmable Electronic Load

It would be cool to have a contest like that to at least get people started working together.

Just an FYI:   We've tried team competitions before on the community and they haven't worked so for this to work we would have to pitch something that is very different from what we've done in the past.

    Hello Tariq,

I love the idea of members of the community forming teams to work in projects, contests. This could be absolutely a huge added benefit for the community. One problem I see here is ironically the starting point, how members can communicate with each other as the message system is very restrictive and can only happen if the other person follows you.

What was the reason that it failed before?

We should try to avoid whatever caused it to fail before...

Now on topics I suppose that those that require common or inexpensive components would make it easier for team members to duplicate the project. Personally I find a novel contests more intereating than a past project14, but im ok with revisiting a past project14 if others want to. For instance those projects proposed for november p14 are all very interearing (which is not very surprising as l suggested 3 of the alternatives).

I usually delay my vote because there are a couple of alternatives that I find interesting, but some of them have no chance of winning. On the other hands there are themes that I have little interest in. I don't think the voting system can be tweaked, but it would make sense if one could vote for aĺl themes one is willing to participate.

I think the bottom line is that we have to find how to make this as attractive as posaible so that we have the highest engagement.
