When I look back on 2022, the project competitions that stand out the most to me in 2022 were Op-Amp-a-Palooza, Circuit Prototyping Techniques, and 555 Timer Madness. Project14 always been a bit of different program and as such has left itself open to a lot of experimentation over the course of the 5 years that its been running on the element14 community. For the most part these challenges were based on ideas that originated with the members, there's no application process, you're free to use whatever components you like since these contests are not sponsored by suppliers like traditional design challenges, winners were picked by members, and shopping cart prizes are often used to buy the parts they needed to enter the next contest. The Hack the Holidays contest is a notable exception as we've got 3 big prizes for the 3 best projects and Op-Amp-a-Palooza launched with a free sample kit as well as larger Op-Amp related test equipment!
2022 was a transitional year for the community at large as we all adapted to a new web platform and transitioned the program to make the most of it. Thank you for sticking by us through thick and thin. Your support has meant a lot whether it was stepping into volunteer for a contest, your patience waiting for a parts to come back in stock, or letting us know when something wasn't working the way it should. This has been a learning year for staff and community members a like and I am looking forward to taking what we learned together this year to make 2023 all it can be.
My Pick for My Favorite 2022 Project14 Contest
If I had to pick a favorite Project14 contest from the past year it would be 555 Timer Madness. kmikemoo said it best when he said "The 555 is my favorite chip of all time. Sorry Arduino. I love you but I love the 555 more." What gave this contest the edge over other contests in my opinion was that there were not only posts from people posting on the community for the first time, but often they would post multiple projects using 555 timers. It really was a fun contest to be a part of. The other contests that stuck out to me in 2022 were Op-Amp-a-Palooza, Circuit Prototyping Techniques. 7-Segment Display, and 555 timer Madness.
Who cares what I think anyway! What do YOU think. In this year's poll we want to know what your favorite Project14 Contest of 2022 was!
