What is Your Favorite Project14 Contest of 2022!

When I look back on 2022,  the project competitions that stand out the most to me in 2022 were Op-Amp-a-Palooza, Circuit Prototyping Techniques, and 555 Timer Madness.    Project14 always been a bit of different program and as such has left itself open to a lot of experimentation over the course of the 5 years that its been running on the element14 community.   For the most part these challenges were based on ideas that originated with the members,  there's no application process,  you're free to use whatever components you like since these contests are not sponsored by suppliers like traditional design challenges, winners were picked by members, and shopping cart prizes are often used to buy the parts they needed to enter the next contest.  The Hack the Holidays contest is a notable exception as we've got 3 big prizes for the 3 best projects and Op-Amp-a-Palooza launched with a free sample kit as well as larger Op-Amp related test equipment!

2022 was a transitional year for the community at large as we all adapted to a new web platform and transitioned the program to make the most of it.  Thank you for sticking by us through thick and thin.   Your support has meant a lot whether it was stepping into volunteer for a contest,  your patience waiting for a parts to come back in stock, or letting us know when something wasn't working the way it should.   This has been a learning year for staff and community members a like and I am looking forward to taking what we learned together this  year to make 2023 all it can be.

My Pick for My Favorite 2022 Project14 Contest

If I had to pick a favorite Project14 contest from the past year it would be 555 Timer Madness.  kmikemoo said it best when he said "The 555 is my favorite chip of all time. Sorry Arduino. I love you but I love the 555 more."   What gave this contest the edge over other contests in my opinion was that there were not only posts from people posting on the community for the first time,  but often they would post multiple projects using 555 timers.   It really was a fun contest to be a part of.    The other contests that stuck out to me in 2022 were Op-Amp-a-Palooza,  Circuit Prototyping Techniques. 7-Segment Display, and 555 timer Madness.

Who cares what I think anyway!   What do YOU think.    In this year's poll we want to know what your favorite Project14 Contest of 2022 was!

Project14 is a phenomenal program. The freedom to have total control of a project with no obligations or strings attached is a very special type of contest. Thank you tariq.ahmad and team for running such…

Op-amps are awesome. I was sad that the project I wanted to do could not use any of the op-amps in the op-amp-a-palooza.It is unlikely they would have another project14 that included the op-amps I need so that project will have to find another home.

For me it was definitely the op-amp a palooza one! Opamps are quite versatile devices and a lot could be done using them which is exactly what we saw in the projects submitted by our community members. Next one would be the 555 timer madness, what a fascinating and innovative contest with plenty of new use cases for the 555 timers!
I have been participating in more of Project14 contest now.
I hope some of the topics like 555 timers, op-apms and RF get repeated for the next year as well.

I hope that the 555 timer madness is repeated another time. I really wanted to participate but was caught up in the challenge with the Spartan-7 FPGA. I enjoyed following the 555 projects, but it's not the same as participating. At least I took the opportunity to buy a few 555s for later.

The same thing happened to me with RFID or NFC, I was just selected for the Sensor Fusion challenge with the AMD Xilinx SP701 development board and I had to park the project with NFC.

Project 14 is something very special, tariq.ahmad  and his team do an excellent job keeping this great opportunity alive.
