Genie Lamp [Update]

So there is no real progress on my project this week unfortunately. Being a high school senior in a residential program is difficult to find the necessary  tools at appropriate times. I have talked to the engineering professors and have begun to set up times in which I will be allowed to use the labs and materials based on my schedule. However, I was able to start a 5 hour print of my enclosure for the Yun and Infineon and RGB. I won't be able to access this enclosure until Monday though. I plan on using the labs next week and finishing up the last leg of my project before I begin working on aesthetics. I just thought I would give everyone an update, and hope the rest of your projects are coming along as well too!

Hi Parker, Get used to finding tools. Every place I worked at had communal tools and you would come to work and find that your test equipment had disappeared over night. Consider it part of the learning…

Thank you for the advice, but it really is not finding the tools that I am currently struggling with, rather it is getting permission to use the lab. Since we are teenagers they don't trust us with the…

We had limited access to school kit even after hours, there were some after hours clubs but those had predefined projects. I was also 3 miles from the school so I did my stuff mainly at home. I had some old icecream tubs for ferric choloride etching in my bedroom and the inevitable brown stains on the carpet. I do remember using tongs and plastic gloves, having many trips to nuclear power plants and a medical family I'd been shown how to take off gloves so that the chemicals ended up on the inside. I also made a project board and simple continuity buzzer from a 555 timer and loudspeaker (which were cheaper than piezo electric devices at the time)

We were allowed to use the PCB etching room and the lab equipment when staff was available though. It's in those off-hour times that I learned most of electronics. Thank you, VTIM Diest.

Thank you for the advice, but it really is not finding the tools that I am currently struggling with, rather it is getting permission to use the lab. Since we are teenagers they don't trust us with the equipment without supervision so I am trying to work with the professors and their schedules so I can use the tools. But again, thank you for the advice and heads up.

Fortunately, I have done this. I have all my code on my local computer, a thumb drive, as well as have it on a dropbox server.

On a similar note, make sure you upload your code somewhere safe in-case the machine you are on crashes or gets moved off to another project.
