Wireless Power Solution for Flashing Light 2 - Wireless Power Challenge

Previous Post - Inductive Power Solution for Flashing Light - Wireless Power Challenge

This is the second text only update as there is not a lot to mention since the last blog post. I have completed the prototype PCB design and have sent of quotes to a couple of board prototype companies. I hope to get a response soon on the cost and delivery times.

The schematic and PCB had very small changes made, choosing a couple of inductors and a couple of resistor changes to set the required voltage output.

I ordered a couple of samples from TI with surprisingly fast delivery times. The last one received took 2 days from the day of request to being at my door. Incredibly fast and many thanks for the speed. I know if i will design another product which I will do one day, I know that TI is an excellent start for components.

I have also ordered a number of other passive and active components from Element14, plus a hot air/soldering station, which I will need to solder the components.

The next blog entry will hopefully contain video content on I hope the final step before testing. I was unable to follow the design requirements set down from TI regarding placement due to size constraints but I have created my own layout style based on my own knowledge and hope it will allow the system to work straight away.

    Thanks Mark,

I dont usually have a problem with SMD passives, my main concern is the Rx chip. I may use the hotplate method, I do have a reflow oven I am working on and may still use it if i can get it finished in time. The heat gun I have used in the past for some re-work use and haven't had too many problems myself.

    Will keep updated.

    Cheers

    Malcolm

    Nice update Malcolm.

There is a good post here about soldering smd using an old benchtop hotplate.

You might be able to utilise that rather than chase them around with the hot air gun...image

I've had really good responses and work from Mitch at Hackvana. Hackvana: It's nirvana for hackers.

    Mark
