In this episode of The Ben Heck Show Karen, Felix and Ben engage in heated competition. Each competitor must build a robot that will have 3 balloons attached to it. The goal will be to pop the opposing robots balloons using weapons that are either built within the competition timeframe or created from scrap found at a local thrift store. Only one robot's balloons will survive!

  • Great project for Ben and company.

     

    This could be a great classroom project where you let people assemble and then accessorized their basic robot kit for the battle.

  • I have to point out that Ben is ( for the first time  ever ;-) ) wrong on a specific part of his robot.

    he used an arduino to decode the PWM signal of the RC-Receiver to an Arduino and translated it , because he thought he wont be able to drive the DC-motors directly.

    In fact there is an easier solution: You just take any Servo and take out the control board & disconnect the original motor and potentiometer.
    Solder two Resistors(Valued half of the potentiometer) to the terminals the potentiometer was connected to , to create a voltage divider.
    than you solder the motor wires to your new motor and connect the original lead to your receiver. the motor now acts a s a continuous rotation servo, no Arduino etc needed, power is provided via the receivers battery connection.
