Roblox is a gaming and a development platform that allows users to deign, program and play their own games - including those designed by other games. The company has officially introduced a new initiative that's designed and aimed towards kids and teens of the gaming user-base. The education is meant to be targeted at it's 60 million gamers and allows them to learn via educational tools that are fun to use.
Roblox introduces them to coding by putting them into the game at an early age. In elementary school is when they first start playing the game, then during middle school, they can download Robox Studio to design their own games, and by high school, they'll have learned to customize their games further.
It's not all just for fun, however. Some of the top coders in the game earn up to two to three million per year. The games are free, but the creators make money through the sales of virtual goods, and Roblox paid out $30 million to its creators last year.
The imitative is called Roblox Education, and it has a curriculum that's easy to use for teachers, camps and even creator challenges. Teachers will have access to a variety of tools, including twelve hours of step-by-step tutorials, handouts, setup guides, outlines, lesson plans and much more as a way to teach coding via Roblox in the classroom. It's all shared freely under a creative commons license, allowing teachers to make altercations as they wish to the lesson plans. It will be expanded later in the future to cover more subjects like physics and design.
Roblox Studio will also be used worldwide in 500 coding camps, with a focus in the US, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, Spain, Brazil and Portugal. The tools used in these camps will help to introduce and teach kids to coding and help them figure out how to develop, market and publish their games in the Roblox world. A Creator Challenge is aimed towards those who don't have access to these coding camps which will take place from June 12th to September 12th and will offer a ‘work at your own pace’program for kids to code and develop their own games as inspired by the "Jurrasic World: Fallen Kingdom" movie.
