Looks like they finally came around to it, and have provided the bare minimum, a schematic in PDF format under a creative commons license which does not allow it to be used for commercial use, here (PDF):

It also says "Firmware will be made available once 3rd party license agreements have been confirmed." on their page.

Frankly I think this simplification is ... too simple, with a minimum effort it was possible to make something more valuable with the same accessibility level for kids, newbies etc.

While I do agree that more features could have been possible, we've seen this before on other boards.

Would they be necessary.?

Would they be suitable, or require something better?

If you had a display, would it have enough digits?

There are limitations and the code has limits as well.

Should we consider that it's a teaser to get kids (and newbies) interested.

I think it might be like karting or the beginning sailor class (here they are called P Class).

Both have limits but nearly every driver and sailor has started there and moved up.

The addition of an Extension header gives expandibility, and probably lets you get to the end of the software capability......

I had several of these (...) like the Philips electronic creator, lego electric and more. And a lot of adult friends electronic hobbyists. To be honest, I think again that a minimum effort it was better and maybe cheaper.

About cheaper no matter, it is a commercial choice. About better instead , I gree with the display and some other features, but at least one analog read and some more legs ... I am thinking to build a codeWorm, sell if for few$ less or the same with more legs and see what happens. Really curious.

If I had the same though with the Raspberry 7inches LCD screen support, I saw that Pimoroni is selling one, already fine etc... I have done it better (??? depending on the market, for me it was following a specific exigence) and despite Pimoroni I am selling one a day. With not promotion nor marketing than some push thanks to element14Dave on Twitter, some reviews online and few more.

What is license-able in this schematic? There's nothing on there that hasn't been published before in exact the same form by someone else.

I am thinking to build a codeWorm, sell if for few$ less or the same with more legs and see what happens.

I'm keen on one.

While it might seem a little cliche ... having it based on Arduino gives a huge base.

Maybe I'll send an email tomorrow, regarding something similar ....

Arduino is the first excluded (or any AVR xxx based Arduino-like), this will represent a downlsizing. I mean really a bugworm, with some more features, just the essential, just for kids, with the same programming mechanism. But open source, with the possibility to see the code and a couple of more enhancement. Same price...

If you roadtest it as it is ready, I'll happy to send one
