Introduce Yourselves!

The great part about E14 is that the community is great, and you can make some great connections. With that in mind it may help to introduce yourself to the group, and so I've thought up a couple questions that might aid in some of those connections.

  • Name and Locale?
  • Type of employment (Elementary, Secondary, Collegiate, Student, Enginering)?
  • What have you used the Rpi for (or what do you plan to use it for)?
  • What is your biggest goal you have for your Rpi, or what do you want to use it for, but might not have the skills for yet?

I figure I better be the one to start. I'm John Moosemiller (but I guess you can already see that), and for now I'm living in the Chicago Area, but not for long.... I'll explain Currently I am student…

    Hi I'm David Morton,

I'm the Director of the Science Visualization Laboratory at Columbia College Chicago Science Math Dpt. I mainly work with undergraduates developing ways to convey scientific information in easy to understand terms. I also work with Chicago After School Matters STEM as an instructor and liaison as well as work on Scientists for Tomorrow, an NSF grant, bringing STEM to underserved communities in Chicago. We are always exploring ways to get young people involved in STEM related areas and I think the PI is going to serve as a great platform to develop modules for use in our programs.

We're looking at ways to build low cost, digital, personal planetariums that will be able to use Stellariium software. There has been some headway in getting it on the PI but so far nothing truly stable that could be deployed in low-income communities or developing nations.

We're also looking into developing a sequenced, modular robotics track for After School Matters.

The more I interact with the PI the more ideas come to mind image

Looking forward to hanging out and exploring what we can all do together with this unique bit of technology.

    Dave

Glad that you've joined element14 Community.  I'm intrigued by Stellariium as I've not heard of it before.  Looking at the website right now.  What aspects were unstable on the Pi?

    cheers,
