Introduce Yourselves!

The great part about E14 is that the community is great, and you can make some great connections. With that in mind it may help to introduce yourself to the group, and so I've thought up a couple questions that might aid in some of those connections.

  • Name and Locale?
  • Type of employment (Elementary, Secondary, Collegiate, Student, Enginering)?
  • What have you used the Rpi for (or what do you plan to use it for)?
  • What is your biggest goal you have for your Rpi, or what do you want to use it for, but might not have the skills for yet?

I figure I better be the one to start. I'm John Moosemiller (but I guess you can already see that), and for now I'm living in the Chicago Area, but not for long.... I'll explain Currently I am student…

    • Hi!  I am Elena Rush from Spartanburg, SC and I am the Director of Grants  for Spartanburg Community College.  We have a new Center for Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies (CAMIT) and will be building an expansion at our Cherokee County Campus next year.  I am interested in training opportunities for our students, ways to engage our students, and developing basic knowledge of the skills our manufacturers need in their workers.

    Hi

I'm John Douven, from Kyneton in Victoria in Australia. Just call me douvie - I've gotten use to that over the years. I'm a Customer Service Engineer/Office equipment repair tech. I've just bought the Raspberry kit and just a noob in regards to the Raspberry wonder. I have many hobbies and interests which include electronics, computer hardware & software, programming, 3D modeling, new (& old) technology, SciFi,....sorry I don't want to bore everyone to death but the list could still go on.

I like interfacing hardware - interested in interfacing the PI with the Arduino stuff - and of course with my Android tablet.

I can say that personally it has inspired me into completely new fields I'd never thought of before. Be sure to share your experiences so that it does inspire the next generation!!!

    Douvie,

I'd love to see the Pi interfaced with a tablet, so let us know if you ever get a project going, or if you have any questions about getting started!

    Hi John,

My A500 has a mini HDMI port…hopefully it is bidirectional and I can use my tablet as a temporary monitor. I'll have to check the specs  I've got to get a few things together. My Pi has only got a 4GB SDCARD and I've been informed by one of the chaps at RS COMPONENTS that all I need to do is to download the image onto a 8GB or 16GB to get more "memory". So what about a 32GB SDCARD??? Theoretically it should still work.

    douvie.

Apparently if you want to get REALLY crazy you can go all the way up to 128GB, but you can find a full list here, RPi SD cards - eLinux.org Hope that this helps, and I wouldn't be too hopeful about the A500 as a monitor, just because of hardware limitations of switching (I have yet to find a tablet that can do this).

Lemme know if you have any other questions!

    Hello

    Im Phil from near Preston

I currently work for a Museum but am typically a freelance artist.
I have little experience of the Pi but am interested in using it for artworks.~

My biggest goal is to create interactive artworks with the pi but would be happy if I just improved on my small amount of current  knowledge.

    philbob,

Let me (and the group) know if you have any specific ideas or questions about what the Pi might be able to do, and how it might be used. We're always here to help!

I'm Joan Kane, a business and entrepreneurship teacher at South Shore International College Prep HS, part of the Chicago Public Schools.I am at the beginner's level and hope to incorporate Raspberry Pi into my innovation unit in the fall semester. I'm open to ideas on how to use Raspberry Pi to spark ideas for products in my entrepreneurship students.

Hello Joan, good to meet you.

Thank you for joining our growing community.  One thing I have noticed about the Raspberry Pi and a lot of the 'making' tools in general is that they are fuel for creative thought.  Soon I will post a blog entry that will drive people to some resources that would be good to look at prior to receiving your kit.

    Thanks!
