Encouraging Nephew off games and into Electronics/Computing

Problemchild
Problemchild over 10 years ago

Number 2 Nephew has a PS4 as his best friend, unless something can be done in 5 mins it isn't done at all.

I'm trying to encourage him in to doing some projects to improve his problem solving skills (or at least finishing problems that take a time to solve or complete!).

What ideas or suggestions do members have, what have you done in a similar situation?!

Hi John, I agree with John W. also. I too am doing the same with my grandson. I purchase a small kit. We talk about all of the component names and their function. I then explain that he doesn't have to…

    Hi John

I believe that the best way to inspire a young person into an interest in electronics is to help them into a position where they believe they are knowledgeable and where their "Friends and Peers" identify them as a relative expert in electronics. Recently, I have been setting my grandson (8) up with small show an tell electronics experiments he takes to school and demonstrates. I tell him all the time that he is good at electronics. I build his confidence and he has to rise to the challenge if he wants to continue supporting the expectations that his friends and I have for him. I believe that we all have a tendency to become what we believe we are. While there is no formula that will work with every child I have had some luck with this approach. It helps, obviously, if the child has some innate interest. How can you convince your Nephew that he is an electronics prodigy? If you can find a way to convince him that he is good at electronics then more than likely he will not disappoint you.

    John

Good one, he is actually quiet good at anything he has a go at but he has an attention span of a gnat.

I'll need to try and extend his span slowly but surely image
