STEM Social Program

This is the program that was distributed at the Chicago STEM Social on July 18th.  We had more than 80 educators and STEM enthusiasts from around Chicago learn about the Raspberry Pi and how to use it to teach STEM.

    It's great to see the City Colleges involved! 

     

    I actually took a Java class at Wright a couple years ago when I was studying electronics engineering at DeVry.  It was an order of a magnitude cheaper and I very much enjoyed the class and campus.  I noticed one of my classmates was also running Linux, and we struck up a friendship.  We ended up hiring him here at Newark element14 as a Unix/Linux sysadmin a year later image

     

    I think the City Colleges, and community colleges in general, are a great resource.  Some of the most successful people I know did their first two years at such a school which saved them a lot money and allowed them to be mature enough to get more out of their university education. 

     

    I wish that the City Colleges still offered electronics classes!  I used to see them in the course catalogue but nothing was ever scheduled.  DeVry was the only place I found that did electronics in the evening since I work fulltime during the day. In the end, DeVry was just too darned expensive.  It made more economic sense for me to quit my job, work part-time and take engineering at a state university during the day.
