Bitponics develops easy-to-use, cloud-based hydroponic garden management system

Bitponics, another Kickstarter success story, is getting ready to launch their hydroponic home gardening management system in the coming weeks that will deliver an easy-to-use solution to those interested in growing their own plants.

Proper plant care - monitoring nutrient levels, providing adequate light, adjusting for humidity & temperature changes - is essential to a successful hydroponic gardening experience. Such a long list of need-to-know information can leave many too intimidated to even begin growing their own veggies. Luckily, this is a problem that Bitponics claims to have solved with its cloud-based monitoring system and army of sensors, keeping growers up to date with their garden’s progress.

On the hardware side, the Bitponics Base Station is packaged with a pH, a water temperature, an air temperature, a light level, and a humidity sensor to keep track of all-important factors that can affect a plant’s growth cycle. The base station also provides two controllable power outlets for automating on/off cycles for lights or pumps. An optional EC (electrical conductivity) sensor is also available for an added layer of optimal plant health monitoring.

The accompanying Bitponics Cloud connects allows users to monitor and manage their garden from a web browser or mobile app. The base station’s sensor data is sent in real-time to the cloud and can be setup to notify growers when plants are in need of some TLC. The intuitive, user-friendly, and green scheme of the Bitponics mobile app connects growers to an online community where all are encouraged to share their garden’s progress. To make things even easier, the cloud app runs plant-specific Grow Plans to make sure that plants are getting what they need at each stage of their grow cycle. Community members can create their own Grow Plants to make growing a wider range of plants easier for everyone involved.

The Bitponics system is expected to begin shipping within the next few weeks. The current price is set at a steep $499USD - an intimidating factor all on its own. However, if the cash is there, it may be well worth a try. Through ingenious system design, Bitponics empowers growers to grow their own supply of veggies in-home all year round.

They had my interest until I saw the price.

I am not sure that I can see where any pieces of this system cannot be built for a fraction of that amount.

As for everything else, I think there is enough information on the web to help anyone who wants to get into hydroponics for a more modest cost.
