Blutracker lets you track anything on the cheap

Blutracker, put a tracer on anything you want. (via StickNFind Technologies)

From the makers of Stick-n-Find and MeterPlug, comes another device that could answer important questions that come up often, like, where is the dog?

The invention is called Blutracker. It is similar to Stick-n-Find in that I allows you to use your phone to find whatever you have attached the device to. But the Blutracker can do this at a range of 2,500 ft outdoors and a few hundred feet between walls as opposed to the Stock-n-Find’s 100 ft range. The Blutracker also adds GPS as a tool for finding important things.

The guts of the device are housed in a water resistant case and consist of a Bluetooth module, custom modified RF amplifiers, GPS and Wi-Fi chips to boost the range. The device has no on or off button, but it is rechargeable and can supposedly stay on for up to two months with a single charge. The location of the Blutracker can be seen within a 2,500 ft radius in real-time through an app with devices that have Bluetooth 4.0. The onboard omni-directional antenna is similar to that of a Wi-Fi router and the GPS can be easily picked up near windows.

The device does not actually track because it does not save previous locations; it simply shows the current one. Alerts can be customized so you get a notice whenever the Blutracker is in motion. Users can also set up a virtual fence, which consists of a radius of a specific distance, drawn on Google maps, which alerts you when the Blutracker exceeds this limit.

Users will not have to pay any monthly fees to use the device, which is great because for a retail price $90 a pop, you better hope it will never stray farther than half a mile from you.

A successful $60,000 Indiegogo campaign means that those who pre-ordered Blutrackers will get them for $69 and there are 37 days left so you can claim yours for this price too if you act by then. The devices will not ship until summer 2013 and at that time the phone app should also be ready.
