WeMo via CES 2012
At this year’s CES, Kwikset (home security devices) and Belkin (wireless tech) announced a partnership between the two companies over incorporation of Belkin’s WeMo system. For those of you who aren’t sure what WeMo is; it allows you to control just about anything electronic that’s plugged into the WeMo hub from anywhere using either a tablet or phone within Belkin’s WeMo app.
The system also utilizes a motion sensor to automate devices when you enter or leave an area such as lights, TV’s and stereos (how can anything be better than the ‘Clapper’?). Automation with the WeMo system in centrally for security, like with Kwikset’s locks, also makes our lives easier. Like when the kids forget their house keys or you want to come home from work to an open door. Simply use the WeMo app, no more hassle of losing valuable work time. Kwikset has a similar system with their Home Connect Technology. HCT lets users monitor and control the locks and security systems remotely with their app and even goes a step further and informs you (with video as well) if you have a break-in. You can also monitor who is able to get inside your home and can add or delete codes on-the-fly. With the partnership of these two companies expect to see more products for home security and automation in the near future.
