Audi-Nvidia powered dashboard @ CES 2012
The new trend at this year’s CES seems to be partnerships between companies to bring us the latest and greatest technology to streamline our lives. In that fashion, NVIDIA has announced their partnership with Audi to power the auto-makers “infotainment” system and dashboard gauges. The systems will be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 mobile processor that will employ Visual Computing Modules (VCM’s) that feature the processor and memory and IO systems that are designed for automobile use.
NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 is a mobile powerhouse on a chip that also incorporates a quad-core ARM processor along with dedicated audio and video processors, all on a single die. The partnership hopes to incorporate the new system design for improved safety on the road as well as an upgrade in mobile entertainment. The Tegra 3 chip is also power efficient which will put less of a strain on Audi’s electrical system which in-turn will reduce fuel consumption making the next-gen Audi vehicles more fuel-efficient.
