ORD Bot Hadron rendered concept (via Inventables)
Have you been looking to build your own 3D printer, or want to add a CNC mill to your workshop? You might want to check out Inventables, “The Hardware Store for Designers.” Inventables is an online hardware store created for people with a strong do-it-yourself mentality. They offer and sell a wide range of products including laser cutting materials, innovative materials, hardware, and raw materials. The team is made up of a group of five well rounded individuals led by CEO and mechanical engineer, Zach Kaplan. The group strongly believes that small teams of bright people can create the best work.
One product they offer among many is the ORD Bot Hadron. It is an open source 3D printing mechanical platform. The durable and rigid platform includes NEMA17 1.6 amp stepper motors and uses MakerSlide extrusions for most of the frame and bearings. However, the kit only includes the frame and motors. The extrusion head, electronics, and parts such as heated build surface are left for the customer to choose and purchase separately. The ORD Bot Hadron makes for a very solid frame to start your 3D printer off with, however there have been some reviews that it is a bit on the pricey side.
Among other products, Inventables offers unique products such as bearings, conductive thread and foam, magnetic fluid (ferrofluid), soft magnets, and acrylic and aluminum sheets. Their goal is to serve supplies to artists, inventors, researchers, hobbyist, and product developers to help create prototypes and test new ideas. If needed, they will even go as far as assisting you in getting to know manufacturers to help with large quantity orders. Inventables is based in Chicago and is helping to innovate and inspire everyone regardless of their profession. So check out their online store and explore what is possible.
