Stylish NFC ring for smart-devices

That is around $20 US. (via iGeak)

Wireless near-field communication connects and communicates our bodily motions to devices around us. Many are quick to dismiss NFC because it has not resulted in consumption. Nevertheless, the truth is that its potentials are many, many more than those we have explored.

Take for instance a new device being developed by the company iGeak. They have made an NFC ring that communicates with your cell phone to unlock it, and it can digitally store and share your contact info with a simple touch to another NFC-enabled phone. The ring is capable of sharing pictures, website and email info as sort of a digital business card. NFC cloning has been suggested as a concern, but the company stresses that it has used proprietary algorithms and circuitry to ensure safety. NFC ring and systems alike could actually change the way we interface with our handheld devices. These functions could go far beyond simply authenticating access like when paying with Google Wallet or unlocking your cell phone.

The iGeak website states that their ring could browse exclusively for information and media automatically. So, it could know to look up traffic at seven in the morning or sports highlights at nine at night for example. As Pocketables points out, the ring could be automated by using the Android Tasker App to grant new abilities to smartphone users. Initially the ring will function with Geak’s Eye and Mars phones. But, around November, compatibility will be expanded to work with Samsung, Xiaomi Millet and Oppo phones.

The iGeak “Lord of the Rings” will not require the user to do any coding to use with its normal functions (probably just need the application). The ring wearer need not worry about battery death because the ring shall last up to 99 years, iGeak says (seriously). Pre-orders in China will begin August 8th, each for the equivalent price of $30 dollars.
