The cathedral of light, Luminarie De Cagna showcased at this year’s Festival of Lights

Luminarie Cagna (via Gent)

This year’s ‘Licht Festival’ (festival of lights) that was held in Ghent, Belgium featured some pretty impressive works of art made with various light sources. While all the works presented this year are remarkable, there is one that stands out from the others. Luminarie De Cagna (translate at your own risk) created a "cathedral of light." The 90 foot tall display with over 55,000 LED’s that only consumes a scant 20 kWh of power! The company will be presenting different artworks later this year at the Jerusalem Light Festival as well as the Falla Sueca Literato Azorin held in Valencia, Spain.

Luminarie De Cagna is an Italian family business. During festivals in the 1930s, the company would illuminate buildings using oil and carbide lamps. They then switched to light bulbs, after their introduction, and LEDs since 2006. The impressive cathedral of light is a testament to the near 100 years of art-light mastery.
