Victorinox combines knife with SSD for Swiss Army madness at CES

There have been some crazy and incredible gadgets on display at this year’s CES in Las Vegas like Lanchiya’s Alladin speaker system for the iPod and Tosy’s lackluster mRobo robot. None more outlandish than Victorinox’s Swiss army knife/SSD combo. The knife features a knife, nail file and scissors and a 1TB SSD USB 3.0 drive with LCD display. The tiny read-out gives you information of what’s on the drive and how much room is left on it. Which is pretty nice and the fact you can get 22Mbs read speed with such a tiny drive is incredible.

What’s outlandish is the asking price which is $3,000 US! Yes that’s 3 followed by 3 zero’s! I have seen some pretty expensive gadgets before like Leatherman’s gold-plated 25th Anniversary Argentum multi-tool for $25,000 but that will increase in value as the price of gold rises but technology has a tendency to be replaced, usually monthly, …..you get the idea. Still having a genuine Swiss Army knife that can hold a vast amount of data and has super-quick speeds in a small package is pretty cool, but only tech-nerds with deep pockets will be able to afford one. The knife/SSD combo’s will be out around April of this year, but Victorinox has not yet decided if it will keep the three-grand price tag.

Wow, at that price I expect a device capable of cutting single molecules.

I would warn anyone with this or any other swiss knife that the people at Homeland Defence has determined that they are weapons.  I almost had mine confiscated at a BWC meeting.  I tried to explain to the guard that I could kill him with half a dozen other articles in my possession, but he was unswayed.  They my wife embarrassed him by telling him she had a bigger swiss knife blade in her purse, which he had failed to check.  You have to love rentacops.

So beware in the US.  Your tiny 2-inch blade is considered a deadly weapon.

    You have been warned.
