Via press kit from ZAGG @ CES 2012
When we think of protection for electronics we tend to think ‘cases’ or ‘skins’. Those types of products tend to only protect our devices from impacts or scratches, and not the electronic components that make up our gadgets.
Zagg, however, has thought ‘inside the box’ and provides protection for our gizmo’s guts with the help of nano tech. HzO’s WaterBlock (shown at CES 2012) makes our gadgets waterproof by coating the inside with a thin clear nano-film. What the nano-film is actually made of is not mentioned, but according to HzO’s website they say it’s a ‘chemical vapor’. My guess is it’s a type of glue/epoxy similar to plastic isolation coatings on circuit boards. Or is it temporary, like the spray-on ScotchGuard for fabrics and carpeting? In fact the company says that you can also use WaterBlock carpet and clothing as well. The water-proofing provided by HzO is great for water protection (who hasn’t dropped their phone in water?) but I wouldn’t go deep-sea diving with it.
There are a few other companies pushing a similar product. The financial backing of Zagg will most assuredly make it a premium brand.
