Although the upcoming Olympic Games are set to be the first to truly embrace social media, organisers of the event have announced that there is a long list of devices that are on the banned list. Naturally, the list includes obvious dangerous weapons such as CS spray and knives, but it also features a long list of tech devices.
For instance, walkie-talkies, radio scanner and laser pointers all appeared on the banned list, as do phone jammers and strobe lights. Furthermore, the 2012 organising committee has put a ban on personal or private wireless access points and 3G hubs.
And while handheld devices like iPads and iPhones will be permitted inside the venues, it has been confirmed that they must not, under any circumstances, be used as wireless access points to connect a number of different devices.
Elsewhere, organisers have said that non-commercial photography and video will be allowed, though large photographic and broadcast equipment will not. This means that items such as tripods and monopods will not be granted access to Olympic venues.
