Philips Lumileds has announced a breakthrough in light output and stability with its latest LED product.
The LUXEON Rebel phosphor converted amber LED sets new performance standards in colour stability and performance, with up to five times more light output and dramatically reduced colour shift.
Frank Harder, vice-president of product marketing at Philips Lumileds, described the range of applications requiring amber LEDs as "tremendous", including automotive, entertainment, roadway and signalling.
He commented: "With better efficiency and more light output, LUXEON Rebel PC Amber makes it that much easier to reduce energy consumption with an environmentally friendly product."
It is hoped the LED will help other applications that still use incandescent bulbs to convert to the energy-saving technology, as it features the ability to operate effectively at higher temperatures.
Philips Lumileds recently supplied LUXEON LEDs to a light-art concert in Jena, Germany which featured a colour-changing performance by 170 illuminated weather balloons.
