Gartner has suggested that IT firms could benefit from the investment taking place in solar energy, if they can develop an efficient service.
The company highlighted how the US solar power purchase agreement may involve up to $8 billion (£4.8 billion) in photovoltaic energy generation.
Al Velosa, research director at Gartner, commented that it is essential that IT value chain vendors focus on delivering a service that focuses on both their existing customers and the new ones that appear as a result of the purchase agreement funding.
He explained that not many sellers dedicated much time to researching this sector in the IT industry.
Mr Velosa added: "If they are able to develop a coherent renewable energy marketing strategy that serves … start-ups with a laser focus on this market segment, then they will reap the rewards."
This week, Gartner suggested that IT leaders must restructure their businesses to deal with decreasing revenues and profits.
