A leading manufacturer of lighting solutions has announced that it is shifting its focus to LED technology, which it believes will light the way to a brighter future.
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors believes that current economic and technological conditions are ideal for a paradigm shift towards using LEDs, which deliver more energy savings than traditional light sources as well as being brighter and longer-lasting.
While LEDs are already used in a wide range of applications, double-figure growth is forecast for the market in the mid-term, as economic and environmental considerations stimulate demand.
As technical performance increases in line with a decrease in manufacturing costs, OSRAM believes they will come to dominate sectors such as consumer electronics, automobiles, street lighting and solar energy.
Siemens recently used OSRAM-supplied LED lighting capable of creating light in 16 million different colours to illuminate parts of its headquarters in Hamburg.
