A new report analysing the market for bulk gallium nitride (GaN) in applications including blue laser diodes, HB-LED and power electronics has been made available.
Research and Markets now offers the report, entitled Bulk GaN Market 09, which details the possibilities for bulk GaN substrate outside of the blue laser diode business.
The substrate's market is currently boosted strongly by demand for Bluray players and game stations and the report predicts that from 2012-2013 new power devices based on bulk GaN will be introduced.
GaN's main free-standing producer remains Sumitomo, which mostly supplies Nichia and Sony for laser production, although other challengers like Hitachi-cable and Mitsubishi Chemical are making their presences felt.
Long-term predictions made by the report see bulk GaN for LED dominating the substrate market in volume by 2015.
