A new report on the semiconductor industry has been made available by the research firm RNCOS.
Semiconductor Industry Forecast to 2012 details a variety of product innovations within the sector, including optoelectronics, sensors, integrated circuits, discretes and wafer processing equipment.
With the onset of the global financial crisis, demand for electronic products such as PCs and handheld devices is said to have has witnessed a sharp decline, with a knock-on effect on the semiconductor market.
However, with a recovery expected in 2010, the report predicts that much of the projected growth will be driven by the optoelectronics segment, with Asia-Pacific accounting for more than half of the semiconductor market by 2012.
An in-depth analysis on various applications of semiconductors such as computers, mobile phones, WiMAX terminals and GPS chipsets is also covered within the report.
RNCOS has also made available a forecast to 2012 for China's software market, which is said to have registered strong growth in 2008.
