A new sensor solution has been developed that can measure the distance of objects in motion with high accuracy.
Munich-based sensor specialist Symeo has launched its new LPR-1DHP that makes use of the company's patented Local Positioning Radar (LPR) used at a new frequency of 61GHz.
The new product is insensitive to weather and other disturbing influences and is also maintenance-free, which makes it particularly suitable for rough conditions.
Symeo's LPR transmits licence-free at 61GHz, which will be the first time radio waves within the extremely high frequency range have been used for distance measurements.
A highly directive antenna integrated into the casing allow waves to propagate, enabling linear distance measurements within a visual range of up to 500 meters.
The sensor could be mounted on cranes, transfer cars and other linear moving objects.
Symeo will present its range of contactless and non-wearing distance measuring sensor solutions at this year's TOC Europe 2009.
