A new series of short pulsed single-emitter laser diodes have been designed for higher power and efficiency.
The new Series 2400 and 1550nm lasers from Intense have power levels of 6W and 12W, but can be stacked to provide 48W of power.
Intense unveiled its newest eye-safe laser diodes at the World of Photonics 2009 in Munich last week.
Both of the new lasers are available with junction lengths of between 75µ and 150µ.
Kevin Laughlin, vice-president of high power laser global sales at Intense, explained that the defence, medical and industrial markets will recognise the benefits of these eye safe wavelengths.
He said: "In addition, end users have been challenging us with new power, efficiency, and packaging requirements.
"The end result is the new Series 2400 lasers which have been re-engineered for excellent reliability and quantum efficiency."
The new lasers are suitable for range finding, proximity fusing and weapons simulation.
Intense's launch of the two new lasers at the Munich World of Photonics exhibition was accompanied by the unveiling of several new prototype laser bars and stacks.
