OSRAM Opto Semiconductors’ Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs have been selected to light up the Yangzi River tunnel in China.
The 8.9km-long twin tunnel will require 5,886 luminaries including over 410,000 LEDs, making the Yangzi River tunnel the longest in the world to use LED lighting.
Bin Chen, president of Guangzhou Zhonglong Communications Technology, said the firm chose OSRAM because of its track record of providing high-quality, reliable LED products.
"Furthermore, with 40 per cent to 50 per cent of total energy consumption in the tunnel comes from tunnel illumination, we anticipate that the average annual energy savings of these LED-based tunnel lamps is over 35 per cent," he added.
The Chinese government has recently begun implementing energy-saving initiatives in its infrastructure projects across the country.
Anolis recently installed a huge architectural LED system at London venue Somerset House, which is capable of computer-generated colour displays for events and ceremonies.
