Leading LED manufacturer SemiLEDs Corp has announced the launch of its third production facility in Taiwan's Hsin-Chu science park.
The facility will bring SemiLEDs' production capacity to 15 million 1x1mm high-power LED chips per month.
Trung Doan, chief executive officer of SemiLEDs, said the firm was proud to manufacture the lowest carbon footprint product on the market due to its Sapphire reclamation process.
"Along with our ongoing collaboration with Aixtron on six-inch wafers, this new facility will enhance our power LED capacity and allow us to stay ahead of ever increasing demand," he added.
The company's LED chips in blue, green and UV have enjoyed rising demand from packagers and chip-on-board integrators due to their vertical structure, high efficiency and reliability.
SemiLEDs recently collaborated with Aixtron to fabricate GaN-based blue LED chips on six-inch sapphire wafers, a partnership which has resulted in added uniformity and higher yields.
