Tower Semiconductor has been selected by 3PEAKIC Microelectronics to manufacture energy-saving LED driver ICs for backlight panels at its plant in Israel.
The process includes 20v-60v scalable Rdson NLDMOS/PLDMOS devices as well as advanced 0.18-micron CMOS and bipolar NPN devices.
Dr Zhixu Zhou, president of 3PEAKIC Microelectronics, said Tower was chosen as it offers excellent process technology and customer support.
"We found Tower's power management process to be ideal for LED driver ICs as it includes an industry first scalable Rdson versus breakdown voltage design kit technology to reduce on-resistance and size of power cells," he commented.
Used in mobile phones, personal navigation devices and other handheld applications, LEDs present several benefits over traditional lighting sources including a longer lifetime, lower power consumption and a smaller size.
Tower Semiconductor recently launched a new internship program to high school students in Israel, designed to increase the diversity of its employee base.
