A highly efficient LED lamp has been unveiled by the California-based developer Wavien.
The company claims that output efficiency of the patented Premien white LED technology for front projector applications is up to two times higher than competing products, without sacrificing lifetime.
A single white LED replaces the three or more coloured LEDs which are used in standard RGB LED projector configurations, lowering manufacturing costs.
Dr Kenneth Li, president and chief executive officer of Wavien, says the technology will enable the introduction of projectors for gaming, home theatre and small office applications.
He added: "Manufacturers of projectors which utilise conventional lamps can readily convert to Premien LED technology, with minimal design changes and a low additional investment in tooling.
"This can allow the introduction of LED projectors into multiple markets quickly, which was not possible using previous configurations."
Wavien also plans to build on its patent portfolio with developments in medical and fibre optic applications.
